[FoE] The End of the World by TheOmegaRidley [FoE] The End of the World by TheOmegaRidley
"I walk a lonely road
The only one that I have ever known
Don't know where it goes
But it's home to me and I walk alone"

~ Green Day - Boulevard of broken Dreams

I wasn't really sure what to call this one, so if you think "The Edge", "The Line", "The Rift", etc...is more fitting, feel free to tell me so. If you have any bright ideas, I'd be happy to change the title. :)

The Divide, Fallout: Equestria style ! I know a lot of people dislike Lonesome Road, but I really liked it. It really felt like the end of the world, post-apocalypse at its finest. I absolutely loved the Divide, with its dark yet warm colors, its sick difficulty and the overall feeling of loneliness. Also, Ulysses was a cool character.
Did someone already try to write a Lonesome Road styled sidestory ? If yes, is it any good ? :)

Amazing! The colour, the shading, the details, just the overall feel is breathtaking! I can feel the lonely beauty... Fantastic!

Huh, that door-thing to the right looks like the TARDIS. :3

Really? Many people dislike Lonesome Road? Quite surprised, I have to say. This is hands down the best of the New Vegas DLCs in my opinion, right after Dead Money. Very climatic and immersive. Exploration and scavenging, thrilling story with a mysterious character that has been tracking you throughout the entire duration of the game, spooky moments (scripted, but I'm not complaining), a challenging area, GREAT weapons (I'm looking at you, Red Glare <3 It's pretty weak in the base game, but with the realistic damage mod it lives up to its name).

Not to mention that half of the game has references to LR and the other DLCs build up to it, making sure that you can't wait to proceed and think about what's waiting for you. My only complaint would be about how this DLC pretty much throws free gear at you whenever possible, even more when you explore thoroughly, making sure that you leave it quite overpowered. And maybe that it's pretty linear, but it's mostly for the purpose of the story.

Still, from what I've heard, many people also dislike Dead Money - mostly for the challenge it provides, especially on hardcore (which I adore. The game still feels too easy.) and speakers which are said to block off access from multiple areas of the game, while nobody realizes that to deal with many of the shielded ones they can simply run through. Christine's perk isn't even required for it. And Dean solves the entire cloud issue. It is a bit linear as well, though, again for the purpose of the story. I could imagine it being a reason to complain about, but hardly enough to dislike the DLC overall.

My least favourite one would be Honest Hearts. Incredibly short, very few locations to explore, not a fan of tribes anyway and the story's pretty underwhelming. The only good things about it would be meeting Joshua Graham, finding out about the survivalist's story, getting his .50 carbine and the desert ranger armor.

I'm contemplating using it for a setting, well, more a final destination, in an upcoming fic I have planned.

I never got to use the Divide.  I stopped with the New Vegas knock off around the early 30's when it seems like so many others were using it.  If I had to though, I'd use Ghastly Gorge.

Tinderbox stared down the broken land.  "There's megaspells here?"  It was hard to tell what was here amid the ruins clutching to the edges of the grim ravine.  Broken roads and train lines, some still danging cars like ragged lengths of rusted intestine, jutted out here and there.  In the depths, unwholesome mists, like poisoned rainbows, seemed to slither and slide about under his gaze.

"Megaspells," crackled the rusted sprite bot above him.  "Halfspells.  Demispells.  Broken spells.  A time ago, this place hummed with activity, taking the discoveries of Maripony and entombing them within the earth.  Wonders of technology.  Wonders of magic.  Now everything is just dust... and poison... and you... and me..."

A blast of staticy dust scratched his face, the gust in the gash in the earth defying the cool breezes behind the pegasus.  If he spent a minute in that air, he'd lose all his feathers.  It was bad air.  Spiteful.  It wanted to kill him.  "I don't know why you're doing this, Vulture.  Can't we just talk about this?"

"We can.  Face to face.  Come in, Tinderbox," the sprite bot said, and Tinderbox could imagine a smile in that rusty voice.  "Come into... the Gorge..."

(Phew, one week later, I finally find the time to answer my dA comments...)

Hey there Somber ! Always a pleasure to see an author leave a comment on some of my pictures. :)
Also, I really like the way you manage to make the reader feel like the world you're working with wants to kill its characters. Probably one of my favourite parts of Horizons as well.

Oh man, I loved that DLC. I intended to save it for last, but I couldn't wait. Ulysses was one the most interesting characters I've ever encountered in video games (even if he was basically impossible to kill at the end) and I was overjoyed that I was able to convince him to join me. The Divide's backstory and overall bleak atmosphere meshed perfectly.

Awww, but Lonesome Road always comes in last, it's the final chapter before the second battle of Hoover Dam. °°
But that DLC is indeed pretty solid, with the best armors (Riot gear series  )and weapons the game has to offer (that shoulder mounted minigun  ), as well as a decent plot, awesome setting, and sick difficulty. Please Bethesda, make the Fallout 4 DLCs as interesting as they were in New vegas.

Wonderful video and soundtrack (though I prefer Green Day's version, tbh), even if it's not so fitting for Littlepip herself, since she quickly teams up with Calamity and the others. :)

Kkat wrote a bit of expanded universe in her fimfiction account's blog about a place that had some aspects of the divide.  Beyond that, I haven't seen much.  Oh, also I think Fallout Equestria: Heroes is currently in a Divide-expy region.

I remember from a while back I started writing a FoE, based off of the Divide. It was... an interesting prospect, and I might go ahead and do it. Is it any good? No clue, never released!

Anyway, this is an absolutely breathtaking piece of art. Great job!

I can't quite comment much on this drawing.....but it is astonishing ^^
What I like personally quite a lot about your works is the atmosphere you invest in the surroundings, and air. I didn't read this fiction, but are those red dots at the base of the division....radio stations ? ^^;
Also, the beidge itself is very well done. Old, rusty, looking as it can fall apart any second now...yet it seems some ponies invest enough trust in it to pass over it rather often. )....except that one poor pony skeleton over there ;)
As always, great job :)

I'm sorry, my gallery is targeting Fallout: Equestria fans before anything else, so it's kind of egoistic of me sometimes to assume everyone knows about the story. ^^;
Those red lights in the background are actually antennas from old missile silos. But I can understand it's impossible to understand if you never played the game.

Thank you, nonetheless. :)

Good use of the similar colour pallete from Lonesome Road without simply lifting a redraw of its vistas. Certainly hits that correct note of it with all the really awkward ledges and strange geometry more akin to a nightmare fantasy than a blasted wasteland! However I am certain I recognise the "place" this is working off in some way as the first sight upon entering Lonesome Road with the metal doorway to approach on the right turn ridge? :p

This was clearly a challenge to get the scale and distance down, if you don't mind my saying I can see the points where I'm sure it took a few ideas to ensure it all "fits" in the depth of the background. Especially on the "columns" on the right near the skeleton. Interesting seeing the camp on one side and the skeleton on the other.  Good stuff. :3

Lonesome Road I felt was, visually, extremely strong. So this is going into my favourite aspect. The story I felt was its real let down if I'm honest, from a writing perspective I felt Ulysses was the master of talking a lot and yet saying nothing. (If you get me there!) His design and concept was amazing, I just wish we'd seen more of him than simply heard his voice. Pity his planned appearances in the core game were cut, them being in would have made Lonesome Road so much stronger than it already was as a GAMEPLAY experience, if not in story for me. Mixed bag, but well worth the experience!

I use color patterns and designs that are similar to the games, to make sure people will recognise the place, even with the miniatures, and go all like "hey, isn't that [name of the place]". I also try to use the perspective that shows the most buildings, or the most iconic view, to avoid comments like "Yeah, you should've used that perspective, it would have been more fitting and we could have seen X and Y and Z". In this case, I took the first time you enter the Divide. You just left the Mojave and suddenly there's a huge cliff, a violent storm, and blinking lights in the canyons down below...if that wasn't iconic, I don't know what is.

It was indeed a little bit challenging to get everything right, but I'm pretty happ with the result. :)
As for Ulysses, yeah, they should have worked on him a bit more, but in the end, he was the one that kept me really interested in the quest, through his occasional dialogs. (That, and scavenging, muahahaaa !)

Awesome pic as always!  I'll admit I've never actually played Lonesome Road (or New Vegas for that matter) but from what little I've seen of it this looks to be one of the most atmospheric/dramatic locations in either of the FO3 games.

Oh course the real question is why no FoE author (that I know of) has attempted use this awesome setting themselves?  Because seriously, this place has "FINAL LEVEL!" written all over it!

Well if you ever find the Ultimate Edition (including all the DLCs) somewhere, don't hesitate, I got it recently and it only cost 10€, which, for the time you'll spend on it, is a darn good price. :)
As for nobody writing something with the Divide...I guess it is mostly because it IS the Final Level. You'd have to go through a whole story to write that part, because one does not simply drop a pony into the Divide without writing a long story beforehand. :icononedoesnotsimplyplz:

Yea I think many people disliked it because of how linear it was and how much it messed with some peoples role plays. I on the other hand felt that it was a great one. Ulysses was an awesome character and alot of the weapons and armors in the dlc were great, especially the flare gun and the elite riot gear. Honest Hearts was by far my favorite, Dead Money was good too, but I'm one of those weird people that absolutely HATES Old World Blues.

It can't mess with roleplays, seriously. The guys over at Obsidian even stated they wrote the background so it would be fitting for every courier...as for the dlc being Linear, a lot of people can't read a name, seriously. Lonesome ROAD. I agree with you about the gear that could be found in the Divide, it felt good to get the best armors in the game. :)
